Alberta Health Services is seeking a Recreation Therapy Assistant based at Mackenzie Place, a 71 bed DSL4 facility in Grande Prairie. Under supervision of the Recreation Therapist, you will provide recreation services to residents and support client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards.

You will collaborate with the Allied Health and Nursing team, contribute to rehabilitation services across the health care continuum, and assist with student supervision.

Qualifications

  • Diploma from an accredited Therapy Assistant program.
  • Valid BCLS-HCP certificate.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Physically capable of pushing wheelchairs and assisting with transfers.

Your Opportunity:

This position is based in Mackenzie Place and focused on providing recreation to the residents of this facility, which is a 71 bed DSL4 facility. The Recreation Therapy Assistant, supervised by the Recreation Therapist, provides services in close collaboration with the rest of the Allied Health and Nursing team. This position will assist with the promotion of a comprehensive service for clients developing and implementing evidence based, client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards of practice. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
  • Therapeutic Recreation Assistant or equivalent diploma/certification from a recognized post-secondary institution. Valid BCLS-HCP certificate required. Ability to accept verbal and written instructions and work with minimal supervision. Professional and courteous manner. Physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time and performing client transfers.
