The Opportunity

Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Therapy Aide assists in the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and daily operations of therapeutic recreation programs. The Recreation Therapy Aide promotes teamwork and a culture that demonstrates the guiding principles of AgeCare: Trust, Respect, Teamwork, and Quality. The role encourages practices that respect the rights, individuality, and diversity of residents, families, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist in identifying residents’ leisure lifestyle goals and develop individualized recreation program schedules.
2. Communicate revisions of goals as resident needs or wants change.
3. Ensure recreational programming is carried out appropriately to meet individual needs.
4. Transport residents to offsite activities using an AgeCare-provided vehicle.
5. Assist in planning the monthly Recreation Calendar.
6. Participate in scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of Recreation Therapy programs.
7. Approach residents to encourage participation in programs, ensure participation aligns with care plans, and document participation.
8. Participate in environmental safety audits.
9. Maintain inventory of craft and storage rooms.

Qualifications

1. RTA diploma or HCA certificate.
2. Class 4 Driver’s License or willingness to obtain one.
3. HeartSaver CPR & Standard Level First Aid certification is an asset.
4. Experience in a Recreation Therapy setting is preferred.
5. Ability to follow directions, act with initiative, and self-motivate to meet deadlines.
6. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
7. High energy, positive attitude, and team-oriented mindset aligned with AgeCare’s guiding principles.
8. Fluency in English, both oral and written.
