Job summary

The Recreation Therapist will collaborate with an interprofessional team, deliver individual and group interventions, and document outcomes in line with TRO standards and Providence Care policies. A focus on quality of life and leisure experiences guides daily duties.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Services with a focus in Therapeutic Recreation
• Member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario, preferred or eligible for registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario or certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
• Experience delivering therapeutic recreation services to adults and/or seniors in community and hospital mental health, preferred

Responsibilities

• Screens referrals and prioritizes accordingly
• Develops a profession-specific intervention plan based on the client’s goals and assessment results; intervention plans can include both one-on-one interventions as well as group programs
• Documents assessment findings, progress and outcomes in accordance to the documentation methodology and policies and procedures of Providence Care and the relevant association
• Designs group programs to meet the client needs within a particular service or program
• Completes accurate workload measurement documentation according to organizational expectations

Education

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Recreation Therapist utilizes recreation to maximize independence, promote an optimal leisure lifestyle and enhance quality of life for referred clients. Services include recreation and leisure assessment, intervention, program development and evaluation to support enhancing leisure experiences and developing resources within therapeutic recreation domains. As an interprofessional team member, the Recreation Therapist participates in profession-specific and interprofessional activities that support recovery/person-centered Approach to Care and our Collaborative Practice Model. The Recreation Therapist will practice in accordance with Providence Care’s Vision, Mission, Ethics and Values, operational policies and procedures, standards of practice and scope of practice as set out by Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).

Education & Experience:
