The ClinicalCareProgram is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (6 months) Recreation Therapist to work in the Psychosis Recovery and Treatment Unit 8 (PRT 8). Reporting to theManager of PRT 8, you will work with the interprofessional team to promote a holistic leisure lifestyle by contributing to the social, physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive needs of clients. You will develop, plan, facilitate, schedule, organize and implement various therapeutic recreation programs. This will be accomplished by conducting assessments, developing individual recreation plans, completing patient documentation, skill instruction, development of program goals and objectives, and evaluating a variety of individual and group recreation programs. You will be expected to contribute to program development, research, and educational activities of the program. You will also provide supervision to students. You will have flexibility in scheduling as evening and weekend work will be required. This position is currently located at the Queen Street Site.

The successful candidate will possess either a Degree or Diploma in Recreation/ Recreation Therapy and a good working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices. Eligibility for Registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) is required. The incumbent must have the ability to run groups, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have the ability to deal effectively with a culturally diverse and complex clientele. Besides being reliable, cooperative and client-focused, you will be a motivated team player who shows initiative. Experience in working with individuals with mental illness as well as knowledge of the Ontario Review Board process is required. First Aid, CPR and Management of Aggressive Behaviour training is desirable. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
