Scope of Position:
Under the supervision and direction of the Supervisor, Programs and Volunteer Services, and as a member of the multidisciplinary team, to assess, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate all activation programming using a Resident-Centered model to enhance the Residents' quality of life.
Position Description:
- Assess individual needs, plan programs (equipment, supplies, materials, volunteers, schedules), implement, and evaluate including special events.
- Implement current therapeutic treatments/techniques as ordered by a designated professional.
- Research activation programs, materials, ideas, resources, and innovations applied elsewhere as appropriate.
- Assess the Therapeutic (recreation/social) needs of Residents by consulting with the healthcare team/Therapists and adapting programs accordingly.
- Participate in fundraising initiatives to support departmental operations.
- Recruit, train, lead, and guide volunteers.
- Purchase program supplies as needed.
- Maintain personal contact with Residents and their families, encouraging family involvement where possible.
- Participate as a team member in providing Resident-centered care and service.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards, guidelines, and legislation.
- Participate in annual mandatory education and in-service opportunities as per MOHLTC regulations.
- Maintain awareness of emergency procedures, participate in drills and educational opportunities.
- Comply with all corporate and facility policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
- Grade 12 diploma plus post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or related field.
- Over 3 months relevant experience as a recreation therapist, preferably in LTC or healthcare settings; student placements considered.
- Current Food Handlers certificate.
- Valid Ontario class F driver’s license or ability to obtain one, with access to a reliable vehicle.
- Volunteer management experience is an asset.
- Experience with Point Click Care is an asset.
- Certification in Activation Techniques in Gerontology is an asset.
