Job description

Your Opportunity:

Provides direction to the recreation program as a Recreation Therapist II, working under the general supervision of the Manager. The role aims to enrich the lives of residents in Supportive Living by supporting and assisting in the implementation of therapeutic recreation activities. The incumbent works directly with clients in developing, preparing, implementing, supervising, and assessing recreational activities and programs. Responsibilities include patient care, possible supervision of professional and support staff, orientation of new staff and students, participation in performance appraisals, program evaluation, and involvement in committees setting clinical direction for patient care and operations. Interventions are performed in accordance with established standards and procedures of the Recreation Therapy Department.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will provide clinical leadership to ensure evidence-based, patient-and family-centered therapeutic recreation practices that comply with policies, procedures, and standards. You will coordinate assessment, treatment, education, and care, participate in program development, and collaborate with the healthcare team through patient rounds, family conferences, and meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreation and Leisure Studies.
  • Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
  • Minimum three years' clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.
Additional preferred qualifications include experience with seniors, cognitively impaired patients, supervision of Recreation Therapy Aides, dementia care, and rural long-term care experience. Flexibility and ability to work in a dynamic healthcare environment are essential.
