A healthcare provider in Alberta is seeking a Recreation Therapist II to lead clinical functions and develop recreational therapy programs. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Recreation Therapy and a minimum of three years of experience, particularly in Mental Health and Addictions programs. Reporting to the Care Manager for Allied Health and Patient Experience (AHPE), the Recreation Therapist II (RecT II) provides support and supervision to the centralized Recreation Therapy Department at AHE. The role will include clinical leadership, training and mentorship, and integration of evidence informed practice and evaluation into various service delivery areas. The RecT II will focus on program development by maintaining and developing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and will be involved in ongoing evaluation to ensure high quality Recreation Therapy service that supports the patients in their recovery goals and community integration. In addition, the RecT II will provide direct patient care in the form of group facilitation, assessment, community resource connection, and short-term coverage and consultation.
Description:As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.
Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.
Additional Required Qualifications:Must have active ATRA Membership; Must have 2-3 years experience working in Mental Health and Addictions programs and services; Heart & Stroke Foundation – BLS (current).
Preferred Qualifications:Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) an asset; Class IV Driver’s License an asset; Strong patient and family centered approach with the ability to work within a collaborative team environment; Demonstrated supervisory/leadership experience; Experience with individual and group program facilitation; Demonstration of punctuality, dependability and attendance record verifiable by references.
