Fraser Health Authority in Burnaby, BC, is seeking a Recreation Therapist to develop, implement and evaluate therapeutic recreation programs tailored to residents’ social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs. The role requires a Bachelor’s in Recreation Therapy, 3 years of geriatric experience, and certification readiness for BCTRA.
The salary range for this position is CAD $40.19 - $50.20 / hour
We are currently seeking a Recreation Therapist to join the team at Chénchenstway, a modern long-term care community located in the heart of Burnaby, British Columbia.
Chénchenstway is a 216-bed long-term care community offering residents privacy and comfort with private rooms, individual washrooms, and accessible outdoor spaces. Formerly the New Vista long-term care home, the renovations were undertaken in partnership with Providence Health Care and Vancouver Coastal Health to help ensure that more seniors have access to high-quality and dignified care.
Chénchenstway is a Squamish word that means ‘to lift each other up.’ Fraser Health is grateful to the Squamish community for gifting this name to the home.

Under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Operations, the Recreation Therapist is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of individual and group therapeutic recreation treatment interventions and programming based on the social, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of residents. Provides clinical therapeutic assessments and considers recreation/leisure goals needs, interests and abilities of residents. Works in close collaboration with the Recreation Coordinator in program planning.
Education, Training & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Therapy. Three years' recent, related experience in Geriatrics. Eligible for membership with the B.C. Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA). Current certificate in First Aid and CPR Level C. FoodSafe Level 1.
