Job summary

City of Delta is seeking a Cultural Services Programmer to help plan and implement arts and cultural programs within the Cultural Services division at North Delta Centre for the Arts. The role involves supervising staff, liaising with internal and external contacts, promoting participation, researching and developing trending arts programming, and assisting in budget monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary graduation in community recreation or related field; supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Experience with planning and evaluating community recreation programs.

  • Coordinates schedules and facility use while ensuring safety, security, and positive participant experiences.

  • Responds to public inquiries, assists user groups, and helps resolve program or facility concerns.
  • Maintains records, reports, inventories, and budget tracking using digital and manual systems.
  • Assists with planning and supervising special events and community activities.
  • Leads recreational activities and instructional sessions as needed.

Job description

The City of Delta is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, creative, and detail-oriented Cultural Services Programmer to assist with the planning and implementation of arts and cultural programs within the Cultural Services division at North Delta Centre for the Arts. The work involves supervising program staff; establishing and maintaining liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts; promoting and publicizing interest and participation in program activities; researching, developing, implementing and purchasing for/of trending arts programming; and assisting in the monitoring of program budgets. Staff are expected to exercise some independence of judgement and action within the limits of established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Key Responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Sound knowledge of the recreational requirements and resources of the area served. Sound knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of the methods, practices, policies and procedures applicable to the work. Working knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques related to the work.
  • Working knowledge of sports, social activities, crafts, arts and other pursuits related to various recreational programs.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, implement, coordinate, evaluate and recommend changes to a variety of recreational programs.
  • Ability to prepare operating schedules and to coordinate facilities usage.
  • Ability to assist in the recruitment of part-time instructors and to train and evaluate same.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of external and internal contacts.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports related to the work manually and/or using a computer.
Desirable Training and Experience
  • Post-secondary graduation in community recreation, arts, fine arts and some related cultural services or community recreation experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Supervisory experience is an asset. Events and programs will be culturally-based so a background in art or heritage is an asset.
Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia with a clean driving record.

The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $35.26 - $41.51 per hour and a comprehensive benefits package, including a Defined Benefit Pension Plan with Special Agreement option (Municipal Pension Plan). Interested applicants are requested to apply online by August 9, 2026.
