This position works in the Bill Copeland Sports Centre – Programs organizational unit, with a focus on arena operations and programming. This is recreation leadership work involving the coordination and supervision of ice and dry floor programs, including skating lesson programs, drop-in skating, flooring programs, and summer camps. The role includes overseeing contractual instructors and volunteers, particularly in skating programs where a high level of skating proficiency is required to effectively supervise and support instructors. While some responsibilities may include assisting with the implementation of established events, the primary focus is on ensuring safe, inclusive, and high-quality arena-based recreational experiences. Duties are performed within established guidelines, with room for independent decision-making on program-specific matters. Work performance is evaluated by a supervisor based on the achievement of program goals and service standards. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of a two year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and preferably some related experience, or completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in recreation and sound related community recreation experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. This position requires sound knowledge of the recreational, social, and cultural interests and requirements and resources of the Centre; the ability to organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational, social and cultural program activities and/or assist in coordinating event arrangements; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractual instructors, volunteers, groups, associations and the general public. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, Emergency First Aid Certificate, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate – Level C Certificate are required for this position. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.

Schedule: 48 hours bi-weekly (0.68 FTE); This position requires availability on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with shifts of up to 8 hours in duration, subject to seasonal operational requirements.
