  • Understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities.
  • Comfortable supervising water activities (e.g., splash parks, pools).
  • First Aid certification is an asset or willing to obtain before start.
  • Criminal Record Check completed.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a 7-week summer day camp program as part of a team.
  • Lead and support age-appropriate activities (crafts, field trips, sports, water play, songs).
  • Participate in staff training (behavior management, First Aid, conflict resolution, program planning).
  • Assist with registration, supplies, and inventory.
  • Supervise children during activities and support positive group behavior.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute ideas.
  • Support inclusion of children with disabilities in daily activities.
  • Assist with evaluating the program for improvements.

Recreation Leader Job Posting

Join the Northeast Burnaby Community Association (NEBCA) summer team and help create a fun, safe, and engaging camp experience for children in our community. Staff work together to plan and deliver a 7-week summer program serving approximately 70–90 children each week. This role offers valuable leadership, teamwork, and program planning experience, making it a great opportunity for students interested in education, recreation, childcare, or community leadership.

Prospective candidates must have been enrolled in full-time studies at a college, university, or trade school during the past academic year and be returning to full-time studies in September.

Expected Work Hours:
  • Approximately 30 hours per week
  • Usually during school hours
  • Camp Program: June 29 – August 14, 2026
    • Approximately 40 hours per week
    • Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Location: Stoney Creek Community School, 2740 Beaverbrook Crescent, Burnaby BC, V3J 1J4
Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of a team to plan and implement a 7-week summer day camp program.
  • Lead and support age-appropriate activities such as: crafts, field trips/out-trips, cooking activities, sports and outdoor play, songs and games, themed adventures, ect
  • Participate in staff training, including behaviour management, First Aid, conflict resolution, and program planning.
  • Assist with registration and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Help prepare supplies and maintain program inventory.
  • Supervise children during recreational activities and support positive group behaviour.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to review programming and share ideas.
  • Support the integration of children with disabilities into daily camp activities.
  • Assist with evaluating the program and providing ideas for future improvements.
Qualifications:
