The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Recreation & Parks department as a Recreation Infrastructure Service Technician.

Reporting to Recreation & Parks, this position will be responsible for providing general maintenance, repair and upkeep of recreational facilities and equipment, including building operational machinery such as heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and aquatics infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting regular checks and performing preventative maintenance on facilities, including structural, mechanical, and aquatic equipment.
  • Performing minor repairs and escalating advanced technical issues; tasks include painting, carpentry, plumbing, and replacing filters.
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining aquatics-related equipment, such as water chemistry controllers and pool systems.
  • Monitoring building conditions, reporting hazards, and responding to equipment shutdowns, liaising with contractors as needed.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, performing duties during facility closures, and conducting minor snow removal.
  • Using maintenance software to track repairs, document work, maintain records, and identify improvement opportunities.

The ideal candidate has mechanical aptitude and experience in building maintenance, preferably with plumbing, HVAC, pool operations, control systems, and knowledge of OH&S legislation and safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with three (3) years of related experience in routine, minor building, and maintenance in public facilities.
  • Swimming Pool Operator Level 1 certification is preferred.
  • Building maintenance/operations certificate (or similar).
  • Facility Management Certificate (BOMI Canada) is preferred.
  • Additional technical, aquatics, or facility maintenance education may be considered.

Equivalent experience and education may be considered.

Compensation:

CA$52,211 - CA$62,314 per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Candidates not meeting all qualifications may be considered for a lower classification and salary as a development opportunity.

Hours of Work:

Compressed bi-weekly schedule of 72 hours, Tuesday – Saturday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with a biweekly day off.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Satisfactory police information check.
  • Proof of educational and professional credentials.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and personal vehicle for work use.
