About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with progressively responsible experience in recreation programming to join our team. As the Recreation Fitness Coordinator, reporting to the Wellness Supervisor,you are responsible for thedevelopment, planning, implementation and service delivery of fitness programming within the Aquatic & Wellness Centre (AWC), including administration functions for registered instructional programs, drop in programming, and special events. In addition, you are responsible for providing strong leadership, motivation, scheduling and day to day direction to part-time fitness staff, program instructors, contractors, and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities:
– Develop, plan, implement and evaluate fitness programming including registered dryland fitness programs and classes (drop-in programs, schedules, and classes); individual, small group, and team personal training/ fitness programs; seasonal or specialty programs and rental packages and opportunities
– Ensure all the necessary tools and resources are in place to ensure program goals are accomplished.
– Responsible for the oversite and leadership of the Fitness Centre (Conditioning Centre) within the AWC including coordinating asset management and maintenance of any fitness equipment.
– Coordinate the delivery of fitness programs to accommodate all ages, skills levels and needs.
– Communicate and collaborate with team members from the AWC, Community Services Department and Town departments when necessary to achieve goals.
– Coordinate internal special events through planning, delivery, and evaluation such as quarterly themed community access days.
– Maintain awareness of best practices, trends and innovations in fitness programming and delivery.
– Assist Wellness and Program Supervisor in conducting needs assessments or surveys to support program planning and identify needs.
– Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment for specified programs.
– Maintain and build positive partnerships with internal and external customers and community organizations and respond to any inquiries and concerns.
– Maintain records including daily logs, participation numbers. Compiles statistics and reports relating to fitness programming.
– Ensure program compliance with all municipal and other agency laws and regulations.
– Develop programming plans that provide modifications that support inclusive or adapted participation.
– Implement strategies and programs to support inclusive participation in programs.
– Directly supervise or instruct programs, as required.

Education and Training:
– Minimum two (2) year diploma in Fitness and Health promotions, Recreation and Leisure Studies, or relevant field of study
– Current Standard First Aid certification
– Personal Training Specialist or equivalent (PTS- CanFitPro, CPT – Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology)
– HIGH FIVE Certifications (Principles of Healthy Childhood Development “PHCD”, Quest 2) preferred
Experience and Knowledge:
– A minimum of two (2) years of experience in recreational fitness management
– A minimum of two (2) years of applied experience in developing, leading and evaluating fitness programming.
– A minimum of two (2) years of applied experience in leading, mentoring and coaching other team members to deliver high quality programming
– A minimum of one (1) year of applied experience in promoting and marketing programming
– A satisfactory Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
– Requires knowledge of applicable legislation, standard practices, and guidelines, including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O. 1990, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, S.O. 2005.
– Experience programming for a diverse range of participants in a frequently changing environment.
– Understanding of the recreation industry and programming trends.
– Demonstrated ability to develop community partnerships and peer networks.
– Municipal recreation experience is an asset.
– Experience programming a multi-use recreation facility is an asset.
– Experience in a membership-based environment is an asset
– Experience with creating program marketing and promotion materials, social media content, etc. is an asset.
