Job summary

City of Surrey is seeking a Recreation Facility Maintenance Worker 3 to operate refrigeration and ice-making equipment in an arena facility. You will supervise Recreation Facility Maintenance Worker 1 and 2, and perform custodial tasks under minimal supervision.

Experience in arena maintenance, a Grade 12 with Power Engineering Class 5 (Refrigeration), a BC driver’s license, and Emergency First Aid with CPR/AED are required prior to probation.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 with Power Engineering Class 5 (Refrigeration) course.
  • Minimum of three years relevant experience including dealing with the public in high demand situations.
  • A valid BC Driver’s license.
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR/AED Level C.
  • Ability to pass Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check before probation completion.

Responsibilities

  • Operate refrigeration, ice-making and water treatment equipment.
  • Perform janitorial duties and routine building maintenance.
  • Observe, record and report equipment/building status.
  • Keep daily logs of activities and material usage.
  • Hire, train, supervise and schedule subordinate staff.
  • Respond courteously to public inquiries.

SCOPE

The Recreation Facility Maintenance Worker 3 is experienced in Arena refrigeration and can supervise maintenance staff and conduct custodial work in an Arena facility. While the maintenance function is the major focus of the role, interaction with staff and the public in the provision of recreation facility services is important to the position. This position reports to the RFMW 4 and works under minimal supervision for routine matters and under guidance for new or complex assignments. The incumbent will provide leadership, supervision and guidance to Recreation Facility Maintenance Worker 1’s and 2’s and other subordinate custodial and technical staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operation of refrigeration plant, ice-making equipment, water treatment equipment and machinery.
  • Perform janitorial duties and routine building maintenance.
  • Observe, record and report on equipment and buildings.
  • Keep accurate records and daily logs of activities, equipment and material usage reports
  • Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and practice good public relations while responding to their inquiries.
  • Other duties include the hiring, training, supervision and direction, and scheduling of subordinate staff.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by completion of Power Engineering Class 5 (Refrigeration) course.
  • Minimum of three years progressively responsible relevant experience including dealing with the public in high demand situations.
  • A valid BC Driver’s license.
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR/AED Level C (or equivalent) – required before the completion of probation period.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check
