Therapeutic Recreation Diploma

Key Activities
Activities / Events
- Develops, plans, organizes, schedules, and delivers recreational programs and activities for clients/residents.
- Coordinates transportation for clients/residents (e.g., medical appointments, facility functions).
- Ensures recreation areas are secured to match the cognitive/physical needs of clients/residents.
- Validates and arranges resident-specific activities.
- Coordinates services such as library, pastoral care, and volunteers.
- Coordinates setup, decorating, and cleanup of activities.
- Maintains activity and storage areas.
- Attends to individual needs and interests of clients/residents (e.g., shopping, social functions, beauty services).
- Maintains communication through various means.
- Advocates on behalf of clients/residents.
- Records client activity.
- Provides program direction to clients/residents and volunteers.
- Coordinates virtual visits (e.g., FaceTime, Zoom).
Coordination / Administration
- Assists with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and scheduling of volunteers.
- Provides guidance and training to others as needed.
- Schedules and coordinates volunteers.
- Contributes to budget planning and ensures activities stay within budget.
- Orders supplies and maintains equipment.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
- Acts as liaison with other departments.
- Coordinates fundraising and grant applications.
Evaluation / Documentation
- Evaluates and documents client needs and abilities.
- Develops goals and assessment processes for activities.
Communication / Public Relations
- Acts as liaison with clients, families, and outside agencies.
- Maintains relationships with auxiliary groups, service clubs, and schools.
- Participates in care plans and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Obtains social histories and consent for photos and outings.
- Takes photographs for charts and identification.
