Detailed Overview
In accordance with Residential Care, Assisted Living and Specialized Populations (RCAL & SP) program's vision, mission and values, the Recreation Assistant, Residential Care carries out established recreational/leisure activity based programs to embed recreation/leisure in the lives of residents to facilitate quality of life experiences and to create the ambiance of a home-like setting.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out resident recreational/leisure programs such as arts and crafts, sports, music woodworking, cooking, horticulture, cultural events, and community outings as directed.
  • Carries out resident recreational/leisure activity programs outside the facility.
  • Provides direction to volunteers during recreational/leisure programs and demonstrates related techniques as required.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment, tools and materials and reports malfunctioning equipment and supply needs to the Recreation Coordinator/therapist/designate.
  • Follows established process to fund enhanced recreational/leisure programs and completes documentation relating to the use of resident monies.
  • Organizes and maintains program activity areas.
  • Provides input and feedback with respect to program recreation/leisure activities at regular planning meetings.
  • Accompanies residents and/or transports one or more passengers by operating a vehicle and/or bus, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Grade 12, completion of recognized recreational courses plus two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Food Safe Certificate. Current certification in Basic First Aid & CPR Level C.

Valid class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted), as required.
