Job summary

Covenant Care is seeking a Recreation Assistant to help plan, implement, and evaluate engaging recreation programs for residents, collaborating with our healthcare team to promote participation and wellbeing.

You will contribute to activities that support physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and cultural needs, while modeling Covenant’s Compassion, Collaboration, Respect, Social Justice, Integrity and Stewardship values.

Qualifications

• Therapeutic recreation diploma/certificate required.
• 1–2 years of Therapeutic Recreation experience.
• Valid Class 4 driver's license preferred.
• ATRA membership preferred.
• Vaccination against required communicable diseases per Covenant's OHS policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, implementation and evaluation of recreation and leisure programs to meet residents' physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and cultural needs.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to promote resident participation in programs and opportunities.
• Model Covenant’s mission, vision and values in all actions and decisions.
• Support recreation and leisure programming for residents.

Reporting to the Recreational Therapist the Recreation Assistant will assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of recreation and leisure programs to meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and cultural needs and interests of the residents. The Recreation Assistant works collaboratively with the healthcare team to promote resident awareness and participation in programs and opportunities and support recreation & leisure programming for the residents.

This position will:

• Collaborate effectively as a professional team plater, supporting the achievement of Covenant's Mission, Vision, and Values

Qualifications:

• Therapeutic recreation diploma certificate required
• One (1) to two (2) years of Therapeutic Recreation experience
• Possess a valid Class 4 driver's license is preferred
• Active membership with ATRA (Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association) is preferred
• Supportive education and certifications are preferred (example: exercise certification, art certification, music certification, de-escalation and behaviour support certification)
• This position requires you to be vaccinated against all required communicable diseases under Covenant's OHS policy
