Job summary

City of Fort St. John is seeking a Recreation Attendant – Auxiliary on Call for Water Slide operations in Fort St. John.

This role reports to the Programs & Services Manager or designate and offers $23.83 per hour under the BCGEU Collective Agreement, with flexible hours including weekends and evenings. You will assist with programs, activities, lessons and events, monitor areas, enforce rules, support patrons of all ages, and respond to incidents.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old and enrolled in Grade 10 or higher.
• Valid First Aid with CPR-C required.
• Recreation Department: proficient and confident skater; bring helmet and ice skates and pass skating test.
• Recreation Attendant – Aquatics: proficient swimmer with lifeguard or water safety cert; pass swimming test.
• Ability to pass Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector screening.
• Effective communication with a wide range of ages.
• Ability to work independently or with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Interact with recreation or aquatic users and provide routine assistance.
• Monitor activities to prevent accidents or injuries with limited supervision.
• Maintain clean and orderly facilities to ensure safety.
• Support patrons in skating, sports, fitness, or swimming activities.
• Assist with community programs, lessons, or events under supervision.
• Apply regulations, policies, and procedures as directed.
• Report accidents or injuries immediately and activate emergency procedures.
• Detect and report hazards in the workplace.
• Promote positive relations with participants, media, and external organizations.
• Contribute to a respectful, positive work environment.
• Participate in onboarding and shadow shifts; guidance on water slide operations and inflatable setup/cleanup.
• Protect health and safety and wear required protective clothing; report hazards.
• Comply with OH&S policies and other job-related rules.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
