Centennial Manor has an opening for a permanent full-time Recreation and Volunteer Services Supervisor - Centennial Manor, Bancroft. This is a non-unionized position reporting to the Centennial Manor Home Administrator. The primary function of this position is to be responsible for the administration, including planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating of all program and support services to meet the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the residents with the promotion of the residents’ quality of life.

DUTIES:

• Practice and uphold the mission, vision, values of Hastings/Quinte Long-Term Care services that focuses on a person-centered care philosophy.
• Develop, interpret, and ensure that departmental goals and objectives, Ministry standards, legislation, Hastings County and Hastings/Quinte Long-Term Care policies, procedures, and standards for Accreditation are reflected in the departmental operations.

Leadership and Oversight:

• Actively select candidates, conduct interviews, and provide recommendations for hiring team members.
• Conduct or participate in team member evaluations, investigations, and coaching/discipline.
• Understand and work within the guidelines of the collective agreement(s). Liaise with the collective bargaining unit(s) to promote mutually beneficial resolutions.
• Recruit and select volunteers to support programming in the home.
• Liaise with community agencies, auxiliary and volunteer groups.
• Practice partnership engagement, establishment and management to foster program development and delivery to address Resident program needs.
• Ensure that in-service programs and education opportunities are provided for the continuing professional development of department team members and volunteers.
• Supervise in accordance with and follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and County policies.
• Utilize supportive interpersonal skills to effectively empower team members’ approach to improve quality care, both at a departmental and multidisciplinary level.
• Participate in assigned committees and facilitate department meetings.
• Maintain partnerships with all leaders of the home to ensure a holistic and person-centered approach to care and programs.
• Promote positive team member and resident relations.
• Practice partnership engagement with community partners, education institutions and volunteer groups to establish and foster program development and delivery to address Resident program needs
• Work in cooperation with Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists Physiotherapist and Mobility Agency representatives to effectively meet the needs and personal goals of residents.

Planning and Development:

• Develop, update, and maintain policies and procedures for the Recreation department in accordance with best practice guidelines and applicable legislation.
• Coordinate the assessment of resident interests in activities, and in conjunction with the appropriate personnel, develop a comprehensive ongoing plan of activities for each resident in both group and individual settings.
• Plan and coordinate fundraising events for special projects in the Home, including grant requests.
• Plan and manage the department’s annual operating budget.
• Keep abreast of new and innovative technology, best practices, research, and assessment tools to provide current and relevant programming to meet resident needs.
• Effectively use and complete Ministry of Long-Term Care Inspection protocols, complete annual program evaluations, risk assessments, Quality improvement plans, and participate in Accreditation related activities

Program Delivery:

• Order and maintain inventory control of recreation department supplies.
• Ensure that appropriate programs are scheduled, and adequate team members and volunteers are assigned to implement the programs.
• Active involvement in current restorative and rehabilitation practices in geriatrics that consider a variety of physical and cognitive functioning levels.
• Respond to complaints; investigate concerns, consult with leadership team and rectify concerns.
• Work in cooperation with the Associations of Family Councils and Residents Councils of Ontario to assist in the effective operation for the internal councils.
• Collaborate with scheduling clerks to ensure appropriate coverage and develop working short routines.

Health and Safety:

• Ensure that employee incidents are documented, investigated, and submitted to the Administrative Associate.
• Immediately report and document all incidents of alleged, suspected, or witnessed abuse or neglect of a resident in accordance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Home Act, 2021 and home policies and procedures.
• Ensure a zero-tolerance approach is taken in all instances of alleged bullying or harassment in accordance with the County of Hastings policy and procedures.
• Be aware of and follow emergency response procedures including all practice drills.
• Be accountable for the delivery of high quality, safe, and reliable care along with a safe working environment to ensure and protect the health and safety of those who use and deliver the programs and services provided by Hastings Quine Long Term Care Services.
• Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, other applicable legislation, County policies and procedures, and guidelines.
• To educate, respect and promote Cultural and Diversity to all team members, volunteers, students, and the clients we serve.
• To promote and practice Psychological Health & Safety in the workplace through prevention, promotion, and guidance.
• Collaborate with the Infection Control Coordinator in the planning, education and communication of all infection control prevention and control practices of the home as it relates to the Recreation department, residents, families, volunteers, and students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from a community college or university.
• One year of experience in a health care setting
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, family members and coworkers.
• Dedicated to fostering an environment conducive to the well-being of residents.
• Ability to educate and communicate program information to residents, family and team members.
• Possess superior organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient computer skills for data entry, report presentation and submissions.
• Demonstrated ability to be tactful and diplomatic. Excellent communication skills (Oral & Written)

HOURS OF WORK:

• Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours/week).
• Occasional overtime may be required for project completion.
• On-Call Requirements as required

WAGE RANGE:$87,172 – 101,979 per annum with excellent fringe benefits
