The Opportunity

The Recreation Team Member reports to the Program and Support Services Manager and plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, a sense of community, lifelong learning, and fun.

What You Will Do
  1. Build relationships to learn about the unique interests and needs of each resident.
  2. Develop, plan, and lead recreation and leisure activities across all dimensions of wellness, ensuring these opportunities match resident abilities.
  3. Provide leadership and support to all team members to promote opportunities for meaningful resident engagement.
  4. Foster partnerships with families and within the community to enhance resident engagement opportunities.
  5. Complete assessments and all required documentation and participate in quality improvement processes.
What You Will Need
  1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or other related fields, or current enrollment in one of these programs with the intent to complete the program within the next three years of being hired.
  2. Alternatively, a post-secondary degree or diploma in a healthcare-related field with demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a healthcare setting, including:
    • Planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities across all domains of wellness for individuals of varying levels of functioning.
    • Assessment, care planning, and related documentation.
    • Therapeutic programming techniques and approaches.
    • Application of recreation and leisure principles and practices in a long-term care or healthcare setting.
    • Supporting others to foster a culture of resident engagement.
  3. A passion for working with seniors and a desire to improve their lives through meaningful engagement.
  4. Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills.
  5. Previous software experience with Point Click Care, Activity Pro, and Microsoft Office is an asset.
