The Opportunity:

The Recreation Team Member repots to the Program and Support Services Manager and plans, develops, runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits which promotes wellbeing, purpose, creativity, a sense of community, lifelong learning, and fun.

What You Will Do:

  • Build relationships to learn about the unique interests and needs of each resident
  • Develop, plan and lead recreation and leisure activities, spanning all dimensions of wellness, ensuring these opportunities are matched to resident abilities
  • Provide leadership and support to all team members to promote opportunities for meaningful resident engagement
  • Foster partnerships with families and within the community to enhance resident engagement opportunities
  • Complete assessments and all required documentation and participate in quality improvement processes.

What You Will Need:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or other related field, or current enrollment in one of these programs with the intent to successfully complete the program within the next three years of being hired.

Or

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a health care related field and demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a health care setting including:
    • Planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities across all domains of wellness for individuals of varying levels of functioning,
    • Assessment, care planning and other related documentation,
    • Therapeutic programming techniques and approaches,
    • Application of recreation and leisure principles and practices and implementation of these in a long-term care or health care setting,
    • And supporting others to foster a culture of resident engagement.
  • A passion for working with seniors and a desire to improve their lives through meaningful engagement
  • Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills
  • Previous software experience within Point Click Care, Activity Pro and Microsoft Office is an asset.
