Job Description

Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing meaningful programs for residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing programs for residents in collaboration with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director.
  • Maintain department records, including assessments and evaluations of programs, participation charts, and other documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers, and staff to keep them informed of current and upcoming events.
  • Attend in-service education to stay informed about current trends in elderly care.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan programs aligned with residents' interests.
  • Facilitate residents' scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
  • Assist in assessing individual resident activity levels.
  • Prepare, execute, and evaluate daily activities.
  • Assist with meal services as required.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy, especially regarding ethics, morality, and integrity, as outlined in Extendicare's Code of Conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with seniors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An energetic, compassionate individual who enjoys working with the elderly.
  • Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van (e.g., Class 4 or Class F).
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, or be willing to obtain one.
