Base pay range

CA$35,000.00 / yr - CA$40,000.00 / yr

Position : Permanent - 32 hours per week

About The Role

The Recreation Aide reports to the General Manager. This role assists in planning, implementing and evaluating activity programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of persons served, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

  1. Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
  2. Assist in the development of recreation and leisure services including program research, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  3. Promote, publicize, and carry out established recreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, and games.
  4. Assist in the completion and posting of monthly calendars and newsletters outlining programs and services available to residents, tenants, and families.
  5. Coordinate external groups to provide in-house programs.
  6. Assist residents and provide portering to and from programs as required.
  7. Observe, document, and report any changes in residents to the supervisor and/or nurse.
  8. Maintain a safe environment for residents, family, and staff through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, safe use of supplies and equipment, reporting repairs, and utilizing infection control procedures.
  9. Maintain appropriate documentation as per policy and procedures, confidentiality, and security.
  10. Participate in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
  11. Assist in maintaining statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro, Point Click Care, etc.
  12. Assist with orientation of new residents and encourage residents to participate or volunteer in their community.
  13. Provide guidance, assistance, and support to volunteers, and assist in their evaluation.
  14. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Grade 12 Education
  • A two-year Recreation or equivalent Diploma; or at minimum a Health Care Aide with a Recreation/Activity Certificate.
  • Previous experience in a senior-focused environment is an asset.
  • Dementia course is an asset.
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 Certification.
  • Serving It Right Certificate.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate is an asset.
  • Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check as per Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs. Must work with cleaners, detergents, and cleaning equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, and understanding verbal and written instructions.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills including Word, Publisher, and Outlook.
