Detailed Job Description

PURPOSE

This position is primarily responsible for planning, implementation, and monitoring of environmental reclamation projects. Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations (EPEA) and helping to restore affected areas within our mine site.


ACCOUNTABILITY

Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, the successful candidate will coordinate with the environmental team and be accountable for assisting the project team, contractors, consultants, casual labor, students, and related on-site logistics.


Responsibilities & Performance Standards
  • Facilitate the development of technical reports and reclamation plans that comply with industry standards.
  • Coordinate, direct, and conduct soil-related project teams and work.
  • Create and review assessments and technical documents.
  • Manage, mentor, and train Junior Reclamation Staff.
  • Maintain detailed records, reports, data compilation, and documentation of reclamation projects, including environmental monitoring and progress reports.
  • Conduct wildlife and soil quality surveys.
  • Analyze field data to develop environmental management and mitigation strategies.
  • Work independently and collaboratively.

Additional Duties
  • Provide technical support and advice to the Environmental team.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education
  • Post-secondary education: Bachelor’s Degree in Resource Management or Environmental Degree.
  • Professional Designation or Affiliation with Alberta Institute of Aerologist (AIA); Registered Technologist in Biology (R.T. Biol) or Agrologist (P. Ag).
Certifications
  • Drone License.
  • ATV/UTV/Snowmobile Certificates.
  • Class 5 License.
Experience

A minimum of three to eight years of experience. Mining experience is considered an asset. A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered. Thorough understanding of Alberta reclamation and remediation guidelines and regulations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Safety attitude and personal commitment to a zero-incident workplace.
  • Thorough understanding of Alberta TEIR guidelines is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian System for Soil Classification, standard environmental field practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication, interpersonal, and administrative leadership skills.
  • Proficient with MS Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and GIS Software.
  • Proven ability to prioritize effectively, multitask, and manage time efficiently.
  • Excellent work ethic and accountability; ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Adaptable, positive attitude, professional approach, and willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements

The incumbent needs to be able to:

  • Handle loads over 20 kg.
  • Maintain a license/certification and operate a vehicle requiring a Class 5 license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent works at the CST Coal Mine Site facility and will be required to traverse by motorized vehicle, ATV, or on foot, CST Coal’s leases as a regular part of the job. The shift schedule is a 5-day-on/2-day-off rotation (40 hours). Overtime and standby or call-outs may be required due to the nature of the work.

The work environment is 50% office and 50% outdoors, with exposure to fire, smoke, fumes, odors, or chemicals associated with laboratory analysis and rough terrain. Travel outside the work area may be required for conferences, courses, or meetings.

As a condition of employment, pre- and post-employment drug and alcohol testing is required as per the Drug and Alcohol Policy. Personal protective equipment includes an approved hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, CSA-approved respiratory protection, protective clothing, and gloves.
