Compass Early Learning and Care is seeking a School Age Educator for the Millbrook School Age Program in Ontario. This contract role offers 20–30 hours per week, with split shifts in the school year and full-time coverage during breaks. Starting pay ranges from $22.50 to $27.52 per hour, with an ASAP start date.

The role requires 1–3 years of child-care experience, active certifications, and ECE eligibility or registration. Applicants should be prepared to work in a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience with children/youth.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators or pursuing ECE diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead activities reflecting children's interests to support development.
  • Maintain active supervision during play.
  • Document children's progress through observation and reflection.
  • Provide health, safety and well‑being for children.
  • Assist with diapering, dressing and eating as needed.
  • Build strong relationships with families and involve them in learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and community partners to create a supportive environment.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties within the program.
  • Follow CELC, CCEYA and Ministry policies.

Job Summary

RECE School Age Educator

Location: CELC Millbrook School Age Program - Millbrook, Ontario

Job Type: Contract

Hours and Schedule: 20 to 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Shifts will be split shifts during the school year for before- and after-school programming. During PA days, Winter break, March break, and Summer, these roles will be working full time.

Starting Rate of Pay: $22.50 - $27.52

Role and Accountabilities

About the role: At Compass, you will work as a School Age Educator alongside some of the most passionate, caring, and dedicated educators in the industry. You will spend your time engaging, connecting, and learning alongside children, families, community partners, and co-workers. You are passionate about early learning and care, emergent curriculum, and lifelong learning. You are energetic, resourceful, and creative in your efforts to create learning opportunities, build connections, and engage with children and families.

  • Plan and lead interest-based and play-based activities that reflect children’s unique interests to promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  • Maintain active supervision with children while still being engaged in play.
  • Documenting children’s learning progress through observation, reflection, and research questions.
  • Create and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, and well‑being of children.
  • Assist the children with diapering, dressing, and eating habits.
  • Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in the learning process.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, families, and community partners to create a supportive environment.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and staff training opportunities.
  • Assist in housekeeping duties within the program.
  • Follow CELC, CCEYA, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.

This position will work in a kindergarten or school-age classroom in a split‑shift role and full‑day shifts during March break, Winter break, PA Days, and Summer Programming. Hours will be based on program needs and funding. Shift start and end times will fluctuate within the team and will fall within the program hours of 6:30am to 9am and 2pm to 6pm, with some additional hours during the split period.

Skills & Qualifications

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years’ experience working with children and youth.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
  • Valid certifications, including a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid, and CPR Level C, and updated immunization records.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators OR is currently pursuing or is interested in pursuing their ECE diploma.
  • OR has an alternative childcare designation that is eligible for Director's Approval (i.e., Child and Youth, Recreation and Leisure, and Ontario Certified Teachers - Primary and Junior)
