Job summary

AMETEK RTDS Technologies, Winnipeg, MB, Canada, seeks a Simulation Specialist - FPGA Development to lead real-time EMT models for power electronics and grid applications on RTDS NovaCor CPU/FPGA.

Design algorithms in C/C++, VHDL, and HLS; collaborate with a multidisciplinary team; develop demos, provide training, and support customer projects. Willingness to travel internationally up to 20%.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Ph.D. considered an asset)
• Demonstrated knowledge of power electronic converters, control systems, and power system fundamentals
• Understanding of EMT simulation principles, numerical methods, and real-time simulation techniques
• Experience in developing, implementing, or validating mathematical models and control algorithms for power system and/or power electronics applications
• Experience in software and/or FPGA development using C/C++, VHDL, HLS, MATLAB/Simulink or similar environments
• Familiarity with power system simulation tools such as RSCAD, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, RTDS or equivalents
• Ability to travel internationally up to 20% of time

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, validate, and maintain real-time EMT simulation models for power electronics and power system components on RTDS NovaCor CPU/FPGA
• Design and implement algorithms and numerical techniques for real-time simulation in C/C++, VHDL, and HLS
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to validate RTDS modelling and simulation capabilities
• Create demonstration cases and proof-of-concept models for emerging technologies
• Prepare technical documentation, training materials, and application notes
• Provide technical support to customers including training, commissioning, and validation
• Present technical papers and participate in industry events
• Stay current with advances in power systems and real-time simulation
