Location

This position is located at the Region of Durham Headquarters in Whitby, Ontario.

The Real Estate Specialist is responsible for acquiring property needs within project timelines to ensure tenders and projects can move forward. Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct land value appraisals for land acquisition and disposal.
  • Negotiate land acquisitions (full takings, partial takings, easements) and recommend agreements to senior management.
  • Provide advice to project staff and management regarding property issues.
  • Recommend whether to commence expropriation proceedings or enter into s.30 agreements.
  • Undertake site selection reviews and recommend land assemblies.
  • Recommend strategic property acquisitions based on infrastructure projects.
  • Manage disposal processes for Regionally owned lands and buildings.
  • Prepare reports for approvals on agreements, expropriations, disposals, or land issues.
  • Administer contracts and agreements with external support providers.
  • Follow health and safety legislation and policies.

Qualifications

  • A three-year university degree and accreditation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada as an AACI or CRA.
  • At least two years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with program services, site recommendations, and technical drawings.
  • Understanding of mapping, surveying, GIS, and legal documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and real estate programs such as MLS, Co-Star, GeoWarehouse, MPAC, RealTrack, and Regional Mapping software.
  • Ability to interpret legal land documents and technical drawings.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • A valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle.

Salary

This position is with Salary Grade 9, paying hourly rates: Start at $53.87, six months at $56.87, and at $59.86.
