This position is eligible for a $2500 Sign-On Bonus - Full Time or Part Time

St. Ann's Home & School, in Methuen, MA, is a leader in special education and residential programming, offering private day programs, child and adolescent residential services, along with a broad range of outpatient services.

We are currently seeking a Reading Specialist. Candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Education and certified by MA as a Teacher of Reading.

The reading specialist is responsible for reviewing test scores and teacher referral forms to determine eligibility for reading services. S/he must group and schedule students according to needs, performance levels, informal assessment and other available student achievement information. The reading specialist is responsible for providing instruction to individual or small groups of children by using phonics-based, language-based or specially designed reading programs, depending on the needs of the students. All necessary paperwork must be completed by the reading specialist, including case conferences, class lists, schedules, individual student files, assist with IEP goal development, etc. The reading specialist must keep lines of communication open with classroom teachers, administration, parents and personnel.

The reading specialist should be able to sit for long periods of time, write extensively, talk for long periods of time, and be able to communicate with other agency personnel, LEA representatives, families and the children. The Reading specialist should be able to react quickly, lift and carry up to 20 pounds, climb stairs and be able to physically restrain youth in an emergency to ensure everyone’s safety is maintained. Staff are trained in current best practice techniques to safely respond to occasional aggressive, self-injurious or unsafe behaviors.
