Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Reactor Physicist to join its Reactor Core Physics Department, supporting the design of new CANDU power plants and the operation and refurbishment of existing plants.

You will perform and supervise core physics calculations, develop FORTRAN tools, and document analyses for technical reviews, while adapting to project needs in a formal QA environment.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Physics or Nuclear Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with reactor physics codes such as WIMS, DRAGON, RFSP and/or MCNP.
• Experience with DONJON and KENO is desirable.
• Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments is a strong asset.
• Proficiency in FORTRAN programming is desirable.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Strong problem solving and teamwork abilities.

Job Description Candu Energy Inc. is looking for a Reactor Physicist to be a part of our Reactor Core Physics Department supporting the design of new nuclear power plants and the operation and refurbishment of existing CANDU nuclear power plants.

Your role:

• Perform and/or supervise the following calculations: Finite-reactor-core calculations, Kinetics calculations, Advanced-fuel-cycle calculations, Monte Carlo calculations.
• Prepare inputs, run reactor physics computer codes.
• Develop, adapt and modify FORTRAN computer codes as required for specific applications (e.g., to implement new methods or perform new types of calculations).
• Develop methodologies and perform reactor physics analyses to support design and commercial activities.
• Document analyses in technical notes and reports, and present results at meetings.
• Estimate, monitor schedules and assign work to meet completion date, perform varied work assignments effectively and respond quickly to changing project needs.
• Propose/develop approaches to be used on reactor physics tasks.
• Develop analysis basis plans.

About you

• A Relevant honours degree from a university of recognized standing in Physics or Nuclear Engineering or equivalent.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (experience obtained in advanced degree programs will be considered for applicability against this requirement).
• Experience with reactor physics codes such as WIMS, DRAGON, RFSP and/or MCNP.
• Experience with DONJON and KENO codes is very desirable.
• Must be conversant with computer environments; proficiency in both Linux and WINDOWS environments is a strong asset.
• Proficiency in computer programming, especially FORTRAN, is very desirable.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
• Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible, i.e., must be able to perform varied work assignments effectively and respond quickly to changing project needs.
• Strong problem solving skills are essential.
• Ability to show initiative while working in a team environment.
• Ability to work to budget and schedule.
• Full commitment to working in a formal QA environment.
