Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to perform design activities for reactor components, develop technical documents, and support regulatory interfaces. You will work under senior engineers, producing drawings, calculations and specifications while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.

The role requires a degree in mechanical engineering, up to 6 years of design experience, and strong problem solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Recent graduate up to 6 years of Mechanical Design experience.
  • Experience in classical stress calculation.
  • Trained and experienced in the application of GD&T is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work for reactor components per codes, standards and procedures.
  • Prepare design documents, technical reports, calculations and drawings.
  • Work under supervision of senior engineers and support proposal prep, design, testing, procurement, installation support.
  • Prepare responses to technical questions from reviewers or clients.
  • Report progress to leads and managers on day-to-day work.
  • Develop information and prepare technical documents (drawings, BOMs, calculations, specs, etc.).
  • Support leads in TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary designs and interfaces with regulatory bodies.
  • Perform reviews and design verification of others' work per qualifications.
  • Support field construction and commissioning activities as needed.

Overview

Your role
  • Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work for one or more reactor components to applicable codes, standards and procedures.
  • The design activities include but are not limited to the preparation of design documents, technical reports, including technical calculations and drawings.
  • Supervised by senior engineers, while adhering to project plans and schedules, conduct phases of engineering work such as supporting proposal preparation, design engineering, testing, procurement, as well as manufacturing, and installation support.
  • Prepare responses to technical questions, from reviewers or clients.
  • Report progress on day-to-day work to leads and managers.
  • Develop information and prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings and bill of materials, calculations, design specifications, design assessment, design requirements, design manuals, technical specifications (for procurement, fabrication, and site installation), testing specifications and reports, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Support the leads in preparing TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary designs.
  • Support the leads in interfaces with the regulatory bodies, such as: TSSA and CNSC, as required.
  • Perform reviews and design verification for the design and engineering work done by others, per qualifications.
  • Support field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, as needed.
About you
  • Bachelor'S or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.
  • Recent graduate up to 6 years of Mechanical Design experience.
  • Experience in classical stress calculation.
  • Trained and experienced in the application of GD&T'is an asset.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Drive for continuous learning.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
