Located on an elegant country property south of Calgary, this family is seeking a(Live-In)Ranch Hand / Handyperson (Handyman)to support the day-to-day operations of the Ranch. This will include everything from tending to livestock to handling any repairs necessary.

This hire will be residing onsite, although located on a separate area of the property.Reporting to the Ranch Foreman, this hire will be collaborating with different members of the team and will be performing various tasks to coordinate and organize the estate’s day-to-day operations.The ideal candidate will be highly flexible, organized, a self-starter, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

*Flexibility surrounding working hours are required for this position. On-call assistance is essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The key job functions are:

  • Cut, dry, and bale hay; collect and store hay
  • Move bales from fields to storage, and transport them to pens and barns
  • Help with upkeep and repairs of farm, equipment, and tools
  • Conduct daily checks on waterers and feed in pens and barn
  • Assist in constructing, flooding, and maintaining the pond/ice rink
  • Maintain the fishpond, ensure the aeration system functions properly, and stock fish food
  • Aid in setting up and cleaning up events, assist in transporting supplies/equipment to event sites, clean vehicles for use, and transport photographers or guests as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Valid drivers license and clean drivers abstract
  • Clean criminal background check
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and standing or walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to live on property and work on call as needed

Experience:

  • Prior experience working on a ranch or farm, including knowledge of livestock handling, haying, and general farm maintenance
  • Experience operating farm equipment such as tractors, balers, and trucks
  • Basic understanding of maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities
  • Familiarity with caring for livestock, including feeding, watering, and monitoring health

Skills:

  • Ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment, as well as independently when necessary
  • Capable of identifying issues and implementing solutions related to farm operations and equipment
  • Effective communication skills to interact with the principals, fellow workers, and potentially visitors or guests during events

Base Salary:$60,000-$65,000 per year

  • Housing taxable benefit

Work Hours:

  • Monday – Friday
  • Occasional evenings and weekends
  • On-call required on occasions (for emergency repairs)

Additional Notes:

  • This opportunity does not include relocation. It will be the responsibility of the candidate should relocation be required.
