Ramp Service Manager, YVR (Full Time)

Reporting to the YVR Senior Manager Ground Operations, the Ramp Service Manager will work closely with our ground handler, WestJet’s Hub Control Centre, and other stakeholders to ensure operational performance metrics are met. Emphasis is placed on safety, operational excellence, baggage operations, guest experience, and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities :

  1. Manage daily ramp operations including aircraft movement, loading, baggage handling, towing, and cargo operations.
  2. Lead all below-the-wing activities to ensure safety, service quality, and operational performance.
  3. Monitor aircraft movements to identify issues and develop proactive solutions, balancing guest needs with staffing, equipment, and ground time considerations.
  4. Manage all IROP activities with the Hub Control Centre to provide guidance to ground service partners.
  5. Address challenges impacting baggage movement, such as baggage scanning, flight hold decisions, and delays.
  6. Conduct staff briefings at each shift start, outlining challenges and opportunities.
  7. Coordinate with operational stakeholders on ramp activities.
  8. Investigate incidents and ensure all reporting is completed per procedures.
  9. Provide operational performance feedback and recommendations to the Ground Handler's management.
  10. Plan tactically to improve KPIs like SPOT and MBR during shifts and for future planning.
  11. Review and report on daily KPIs.
  12. Oversee ground service operations and equipment allocation with the service partner.
  13. Ensure compliance with safety and security standards set by WestJet, Transport Canada, and other bodies.
  14. Monitor future flight operations for potential issues, especially delays related to baggage and staffing.
  15. Complete safety audits and quality control measures.
  16. Monitor airport equipment, testing and reporting to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  17. Prepare a daily shift summary report.
  18. Perform other duties as required by WestJet.

Qualifications :

  • 3-5 years airline operations experience.
  • Ramp operations experience.
  • Minimum 3 years leadership experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC); current RAIC is a strong asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a YVR Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP); current AVOP is a strong asset.
  • Experience in a hub airport is advantageous.
  • Exceptional OTP and performance.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor.
  • Proven leadership by example and positive influence.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts 24/7/365 and travel as needed.
  • Proficient in PC applications, MS Office, including Power BI.
