Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Rail Infrastructure Co-op Student for Winter 2027 in Toronto, ON. You will support Rail & Transit projects across Canada, producing rail alignment drawings, trackwork details, yard layouts, and ductbank routes while attending site visits to inform designs.

The role requires pursuing a Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering degree, knowledge of Track Design Handbook (TCRP 155), and familiarity with AREMA/EN/AS standards.

  • Pursuing a degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with Track Design Handbook (TCRP 155).
  • Able to apply AREMA standards in Alignment and Trackwork Design.
  • Able to apply EN/AS or other international standards.
  • Self-motivated and a good team player.
  • Able to adapt to changing work environments.
  • Understands transit environment in Canada and safety considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Support Trackwork Engineers and EITs in producing designs and construction support documentation for Rail & Transit projects across Canada.
  • Prepare rail alignment & profile drawings, trackplan-schematic drawings, trackwork detail drawings, and typical sections.
  • Prepare yard and maintenance facility layouts, cross sections, and track clearance envelopes.
  • Prepare ductbank and cable routing drawings and signage drawings along transit guideways.
  • Attend site visits to support design and construction activities.
  • Perform analyses to address design issues.
  • Use CAD and 3D software to develop and deliver design solutions.

Your role within the team:
  • Support Trackwork Engineers and EITs in producing designs and construction support documentation for Rail & Transit projects across Canada.
  • Prepare rail alignment & profile drawings, trackplan-schematic drawings, trackwork detail drawings, and typical sections, including multi-discipline interface sections.
  • Prepare yard and maintenance facility general layouts, cross sections, details, and track clearance envelopes to determine bodyline displacements, stopping positions, and fouling points.
  • Prepare ductbank and cable routing drawings and specifications, emergency and maintenance walkway drawings, transit operational signage, and guideway lighting drawings along transit guideways.
  • Attend site visits, as necessary, to support project design and construction activities.
  • Perform various analyses to problem-solve and address different design issues.
  • Use various CAD and 3D software tools to develop and deliver design solutions.
The ideal candidate:
  • Working towards a degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Familiarity in the Track Design Handbook for Light Rail Transit (TCRP 155).
  • Able to apply AREMA standard in Alignment and Trackwork Design.
  • Able to apply EN, AS or other international standards in Alignment and Trackwork Design.
  • Self-motivated and good team player.
  • Able to adopt to changing work environments.
  • Understands the transit environment in Canada and the role we play in creating a safe and reliable transit system.
