Job description

Job Summary:

Responsible for the supervision of the clinical training of students. This function is used to describe instructional academic staff positions in the health sciences and other academic disciplines with clinical practices. Individuals appointed at the clinical instructor level may have qualifications and training comparable with faculty. Clinical titles must have approval of an academic department.

Modified professorial functions have four prefixes or levels: Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. The specific definition of each level for professorial academic staff titles is left to the purview of each unit in which the title is employed. However, differences between successively higher title levels must reflect demonstrable differences in experience and knowledge gained, applied to the specific duties of the function.


Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will be in both Radiology and Radiation Oncology and will include didactic, laboratory and clinical teaching of veterinary medical students, participation in patient care through diagnostic imaging using a variety of modalities including radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography. Patient care through Radiation oncology using the in-house linear accelerator (TomoTherapy Radixact) and other vendors (Varian) with Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), and Image-guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). All these responsivities are in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital with supervision of residents and continuing education of veterinarians.

Distribution of time for clinical track is expected to be:

* Clinical practice: 40-50%
* Non-clinical Teaching: 15%
* Research: 30-40%
* Service: 5%

22-26 weeks of clinical duty; up to 15-20 lectures; up to 20-30 hours of laboratory.

DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree, by start date.


Qualifications:

* Completion of residency training in Radiation Oncology required by time of start date.
* Boarded in the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR), Affiliate in Radiation Oncology is required at time of start date.
* Must be boarded or board eligible in ACVR or European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) at time of start date.

License/Certification:

Required
Wisconsin Veterinary License
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin at time of start date.

Additional Information:

The current faculty consists entirely of ACVR Diplomates, with three members holding additional certifications one in the Radiation Oncology affiliate and two in the newly established Equine Diagnostic Imaging affiliate. Our standing large animal CT unit, developed at UW-Madison, provides high-resolution, sedated standing CT images of horses, covering areas from the foot to the carpus/tarsus and from the skull to C2-3.

The UW School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is a dynamic and collaborative workplace, home to enthusiastic students, skilled technologists, dedicated residents, and faculty specialists who work together to provide outstanding veterinary care. SVM is in the final stages of construction on a state-of-the-art facility, with the exciting transition into the new space already underway. This expansion will significantly enhance instructional areas for students, double the size of the small animal hospital, and greatly improve the large animal hospital. It will also expand laboratory space for studying naturally occurring diseases in animals and humans while modernizing research areas.
