Job summary

Griffith Foods is hiring a Research & Development Technician to support innovative food product development at our Scarborough site. Reporting to the R&D manager, you will assist with experimentation, product development, evaluation, and technical documentation in lab, pilot plant, and production settings.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or specialized training in Food Science is required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in Research & Development, Food Science, Quality, or a related technical role.
  • Experience working with laboratory, pilot plant, or food manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with research and experimentation activities that contribute to new products, technologies, and business solutions.
  • Evaluate raw materials, product formulations, and food applications to support development projects.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and prepare reports, presentations, tables, and technical documentation.
  • Support plant trials, product presentations, sensory panels, and product evaluation activities.
  • Operate laboratory, pilot plant, analytical, and kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
  • Provide technical support to internal departments, suppliers, and customers as required.
  • Package and ship samples while ensuring timely support for customer and business needs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and participate in special projects as assigned.

Griffith Foods is hiring a Research & Development Technician to support the development of innovative food products and technologies. Reporting to the R&D manager and working closely with senior scientists, you will assist with experimentation, product development, product evaluation, and technical activities that contribute to business growth and customer success. This role offers a hands‑on opportunity to work in laboratory, pilot plant, and production environments while supporting projects that bring new ideas and food solutions to market.

As a Research and Development Technician, your responsibilities will include:
  • Assist with research and experimentation activities that contribute to new products, technologies, and business solutions.

The Research and Development Technician position is well-suited for you if you:

Qualified Candidates Will Have
  • Diploma or specialized training from a recognized Community College or University program, preferably in Food Science.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Research & Development, Food Science, Quality, or a related technical role.
  • Experience working with laboratory, pilot plant, or food manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.
What Will Set You Apart
  • Experience operating meat processing and pilot plant equipment, including smokehouses, grinders, mixers, stuffers, patty-forming, and portioning equipment.
  • Experience with protein applications, marinades, binders, seasonings, and coatings product development.
  • Knowledge of food formulation, sensory evaluation, and ingredient functionality.
  • A Food Science degree or coursework focused on food chemistry, product development, or processing technologies.
