Job description

What To Expect

A successful R&D Machinist will work with a cross-functional team of Engineers, Machinists, and other Technicians to measure components and subassemblies. As part of an R&D team, no two days will be the same. The candidate must be highly motivated to learn and grow, as there is a wide array of machine tools onsite that require experts to extract their full potential. The candidate must also remain flexible to accommodate shifting priorities and schedules. By joining this team, you will have the opportunity to use high-quality equipment and work with a team that consistently pushes the boundaries of manufacturing and engineering.

What You'll Do
  1. Set up and operate CNC lathes, milling machines, and grinding machines
  2. Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and drill presses
  3. Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to develop machining processes for complex components
  4. Program components for machines listed above using CAM software
  5. Maintain machine tools and equipment as needed
  6. Practice 5S cyclical methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) to drive continuous improvement in the lab workspace
  7. Follow all safety protocols and company policies to maintain a safe and efficient work environment
What You'll Bring
  • Red Seal certification preferred but equivalent experience will be considered
  • Ability to use CAM software to program parts for machining (MasterCAM and/or hyperMILL)
  • Experience working with tight tolerances in metric (microns)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong understanding of GD&T as per ASME Y14.5
  • Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of gear machining processes is an asset
  • Forklift and crane certifications are an asset
  • Ability to frequently and repetitively lift, push, and carry up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
