As an R&D Engineer with a specialization in polymer materials science for medical devices, you will help develop and optimize surface properties to enhance product performance and reliability.

The Big Picture

  • Act as a subject matter expert on polymer material properties, including coating methods, chemistries, material selection, and troubleshooting processing methods.
  • Design, execute, and monitor tests, perform verifications, and report non-conformities and performance shifts.
  • Own coating-related processes, including optimization, polymer selection, prototyping, etc.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify surface requirements, implement solutions, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Conduct testing, analysis, and validation of coatings and polymers on various surfaces to ensure performance and standards compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize surface characteristics for consistent results and scalability.
  • Prepare technical documentation for protocols, reports, and regulatory submissions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and emerging materials.
  • Collaborate on root cause analysis of defects and resolve issues.
  • Troubleshoot lab equipment errors and improve testing procedures.
Your Unique Expertise

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 3+ years experience in surface modification techniques for medical devices or regulated industries.
  • Proficiency in characterization techniques for coating performance evaluation.
  • Technical skills in polymer selection, modifications, characterization, and testing.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical documentation and presentations.

Asset Skills:

  • Experience with regulatory standards (ISO 13485, FDA).
  • Knowledge of coating technologies and surface modification techniques.
  • Familiarity with catheter-based devices or disposable medical products.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma.
