Position Summary

The Quick Service Assistant Manager is responsible for helping with the effective management and running of the venue’s concessions operations. This includes, but is not limited to, food preparation and production, compliance with alcohol service policies, guest service, employee/volunteer hiring, training and scheduling, closing duties, balancing bookwork, troubleshooting, minimizing waste, and closing duties. The Quick Service Assistant Manager must provide a high level of event oversight, technical proficiency, and operational/personnel support to ensure the smooth running of any assigned event.

The Quick Service Assistant Manager will actively, in support of the Quick Service Manager, manage all aspects of employee relations to ensure a positive, harmonious, compliant, and cooperative work environment. They will actively supervise, coach, counsel, train, direct, and mentor employees in meeting company quality standards and will assist with all employment actions such as hiring, training, promotion, transfer, discipline, suspension, and termination. The Quick Service Assistant Manager will provide oversight and resolution responsibility for all direct employee performance issues.

This is a key position for the effective and profitable operation of the business. The Quick Service Assistant Manager must maintain excellent attendance and be available to work a variable event-driven schedule which will include evenings, weekends, and (potentially) holidays. Open availability, professional presentation, outstanding interpersonal skills, self-directed, and strong technical (computer and POS) aptitude are required.

This role pays a yearly wage of $48,000 to $50,000.

About the Venue

Owned by the City of Oshawa and managed by OVG, the Tribute Communities Centre opened in 2006 with a project cost of $45 million. As Durham Region’s premier Sports and Entertainment Facility, the Tribute Communities Centre provides a first-class home to the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League, Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame, and the Durham Central Adult Hockey League.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting in the managing, developing, and mentoring of staff for 5 concessions stands, in-seat service, and vending stations. Approximately 75-80 employees will man these various stations.
  • Actively supervise, coach, counsel, train, direct, and mentor employees in meeting company quality standards.
  • Initiate and authorize all employment actions such as hiring, training, promotion, transfer, discipline, suspension, and termination.
  • Responsible for the completion of employee documentation including performance and attendance issues in accordance with company policies and practices.
  • Ensure proper setup of all concession locations prior to doors opening, which includes verifying opening inventory, assigning duties to concession workers, ensuring sanitation standards are met, verifying that each location is fully operational, and ascertaining levels of food production based upon projected guest attendance.
  • Assure that the Stand Supervisor has followed proper procedures for distribution and handling of cash.
  • Provide a high level of oversight and operational expertise resulting in the smooth, efficient, and profitable execution of events.
  • Willing to cover any open position to assure the location is fully operational and company standards pertaining to speed of service and guest satisfaction are met.
  • Assist with Premium Services operations and event needs as required on an event-by-event basis as directed by the Director of Food & Beverage and Quick Service Manager.
  • Provide direction and oversight to Stand Supervisors and staff.
  • Ensure that all OVG and venue policies, procedures, and practices are adhered to, including compliance with alcohol service and food handling/sanitation guidelines, general safety policies, and procedures.
  • Report any alcohol service or other compliance issues, including recognizing guests that are visibly intoxicated and taking action to cut off alcohol to such individuals, to the Director of Food & Beverage and Quick Service Manager.
  • Oversee the post-event administrative forms and product tracking reports.
  • Serve as a resource for POS applications, training, and hardware problems.
  • Ensure the work environment is safe and free from harassment or discrimination; immediately address all safety concerns, potential hazards, accidents, or incidents.
  • Relay safety/health issues to management immediately.
  • Ensure staff are aware of workplace expectations; provide ongoing assistance, training, and mentoring to staff; promote a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative workplace environment by working side-by-side with staff; reinforce procedures and practices through repetition; lead by example and provide ongoing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
  • Assist the management team with projects including training, inventory, and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Quick Service Manager, Director of Food & Beverage, and/or General Manager.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, professional, and courteous manner which fosters a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to make sound business/operations decisions (e.g., regarding employee placement, staffing adjustments, and/or respond to technical, product, or equipment challenges during an event) quickly and under pressure.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Solid working knowledge of computer applications: Microsoft Office, POS systems (knowledge of Squirrel considered an asset), and timekeeping systems (knowledge of ADP Workforce Now considered an asset).
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of all existing concession locations: geographical location, equipment, evacuation procedures, adjacent employee and guest areas, and facility access.
  • Possess thorough working knowledge of all applicable sanitation requirements, food preparation guidelines, alcohol service policies, safety standards, etc. pertaining to OVG and venue concession operations.
  • Ability to calculate basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages) as they relate to POS cash/credit transactions, cash reconciliation, and product inventory.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly.
  • Ability to consistently adhere to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality.
  • Six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess valid Food Handlers and Smart Serve Certifications.
