Quantity Surveyor | Contract Administrator required in Vancouver, British Columbia, to support major civil engineering and infrastructure projects. This client-facing opportunity will suit an experienced QS, Senior Quantity Surveyor, or Contract Administrator seeking to apply strong commercial, contractual, and contract administration skills in Vancouver’s infrastructure market.

Quantity Surveyor | Contract Administrator required in Vancouver, British Columbia, to work on major civil engineering and infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager or Contract Administrator to use their commercial and contractual expertise in a client-facing role supporting major infrastructure construction projects.

The successful candidate will support the administration and delivery of large-scale civil engineering and transportation infrastructure projects in Vancouver and across British Columbia. Projects may include roads, bridges, rail, transit, tunnelling, highways and other complex public infrastructure schemes.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful Quantity Surveyor | Contract Administrator will support the commercial and contractual administration of major infrastructure construction management contracts in Vancouver. The role requires a strong combination of quantity surveying, commercial awareness, contractual knowledge, procurement expertise and stakeholder management.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

• Administering construction contracts on major civil engineering and infrastructure projects
• Supporting clients and project teams with contract interpretation, contractual compliance and contract management processes
• Applying quantity surveying and commercial management expertise to cost, change, payment and contract matters
• Supporting procurement activities, including tendering, contract documentation, bid evaluation and award processes
• Tracking project progress, contract performance, costs, programme, changes and commercial risk
• Reviewing and supporting variations, change management, payment processes and claims administration
• Liaising regularly with clients, contractors, consultants, designers, commercial teams and other key project stakeholders
• Acting as a confident client-facing representative at meetings, workshops and project discussions
• Preparing and maintaining contract records, commercial reports, correspondence, meeting notes and project documentation
• Identifying contractual risks, commercial issues and stakeholder concerns and escalating these appropriately
• Supporting effective contractor management and communication throughout the construction supply chain

Desired Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in quantity surveying, commercial management, contract administration, construction procurement, project controls, construction law or major infrastructure project delivery.

Candidates with a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager background are particularly encouraged to consider this Vancouver opportunity where they can apply transferable QS skills within a broader client-facing contract administration position.

Around 5 to 10 years of relevant experience is expected, although this is flexible for strong candidates with appropriate experience in infrastructure, quantity surveying, commercial management, contract administration, or Alternative Delivery.

Relevant experience may include:

• Quantity surveying or commercial management experience gained on civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects
• Contract administration experience gained with a consultancy, client organisation, general contractor or other construction employer
• Strong knowledge of cost management, change management, variations, valuations, payment processes and commercial reporting
• Experience administering construction contracts on transportation, transit, rail, highway, bridge, tunnelling, utilities or other major infrastructure projects
• Experience of procurement, tendering, contract documentation and contractor management
• Exposure to Alternative Delivery models such as Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, Alliance, P3/PPP, DBF or other collaborative contracting models
• Experience of construction claims, contractual correspondence or dispute-related matters would be advantageous
• Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify contractual and project risks
• Confidence liaising with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors and senior stakeholders
• Strong written communication skills, including the preparation of reports, correspondence and clear contract records
• Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to operate effectively in a visible, client-facing role
• Competence using Microsoft Office; experience with project management, document control, scheduling or project controls systems would be advantageous

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

A relevant professional or academic qualification is expected, although candidates with a strong combination of education, professional training and practical construction experience will also be considered.

• Degree or diploma in quantity surveying, construction management, civil engineering, law, business administration, project management or a related discipline
• Construction law, procurement or contract administration training
• Professional designations such as PQS, MRICS, CCCA, PMP, CIArb or similar would be advantageous but are not essential
