Job summary

ABB in Canada is seeking a Quality and Continuous Improvement professional to support local units in developing capabilities to control products and systems. You will ensure compliance with internal, customer, and industry requirements in a cost-effective and safe environment, and help develop and implement standards and test methods to release compliant products, software, and services to customers.

This on-site role focuses on conducting test protocols, supporting supplier and production

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; DEC in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience testing electrical products or systems.
  • Bilingual French and English; French required for local communications.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics; UL/CSA knowledge is an asset.
  • Strong autonomy, proactivity, and teamwork; customer communication is a plus.

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to assist local unit in developing the necessary capabilities to effectively control products and systems. Each day, you will ensure compliance with internal, customer, and industry requirements within a cost-effective and safe working environment. You will also showcase your expertise by participating in the development and implementation of standards and test methods to ensure only compliant products, software, and services are released to the customer.

The work model for the role is: on site

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Conducts test protocols, as assigned, to ensure products, systems, or software meet specified requirements and customer expectations in incoming, manufacturing, factory test labs, or final inspection quality, including internal testing routine and Factory Acceptance Testing (F.A.T.) as applicable.
  • Supports quality control needs and activities for supplier quality, production quality, testing and validation, and engineering, as applicable in the local organization.
  • Executes and assists specific quality-related training, promoting a passion for quality and integrity in all actions, with a focus on result orientation.
  • Reports quality issues data, ensuring adherence to quality management system at all stages.
  • Collects, records, and evaluates data to be interpreted according to the internal ABB specifications, customer norms, and applicable national and/or global standards while maintaining a high level of integrity.
  • Escalates product quality or safety non-conformance cases to quality control organization.
  • Assists engineering staff to develop test protocols, as necessary, to investigate the integrity of new products or new functionality for existing products.
  • Provides support to other functional teams as needed to establish test protocols and perform inspections.
  • Utilizes safety systems to perform work, resulting in an accident-free workplace.
  • Notifies others when unsafe situations are observed and works with local Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) teams to improve the safety systems.
  • Performs activities related to designated areas within quality control, including quality testing and verification, laboratory and certifications, product safety and compliance, and audits and reporting.
  • Ensures that identified problems from quality control are understood and evaluated from a customer/stakeholder point of view.
  • Works in close collaboration to resolve the problems and ensures they are fully addressed by following robust root cause analysis and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Provides feedback and advice to the Engineering/R&D team on improvement opportunities in product and/or process design.
  • Evaluates test performance for effectiveness and efficiency to improve test design.
  • Uses lessons learned from the field to improve testing in alignment with engineering
Qualifications For The Role
  • College diploma (DEC) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience testing electrical products or systems.
  • Bilingual (French and English); French required, English for communication with clients outside Quebec.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics; experience with UL or CSA standards is an asset.
  • Strong autonomy, proactivity, and team spirit; experience in customer communication is an asset.
