Job Summary

Under the direction and mentorship of the Manager, Quality & Patient Safety, the Patient Safety Coordinator position will participate in a variety of system, patient safety and quality improvement projects and initiatives. This position will promote a culture of quality, safety and high-reliability to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care. The Patient Safety Coordinator will support, recommend, design, implement, and manage the tools used for data capture (e.g. RL6), as well as support quality and patient safety-related organizational performance data management and reporting.

The Patient Safety Coordinator may also support the Clinical Practice Guidelines Initiative (CPGI) portfolio to ensure activities of the CPGI portfolio are implemented in accordance with CancerCare Manitoba’s (CCMB) strategic priorities and operating plans.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Post-secondary degree in health sciences, social sciences or relevant field from an accredited education institution
  • A certificate in quality management or patient safety is an asset
  • 5 years of experience in quality, patient safety within the health services industry
  • 3 years of experience in a healthcare setting
  • 3 years of experience with data analysis in a health services to support improved quality & patient safety
  • 3 years of experience in quality improvement projects or other systemic change initiatives in a health services environment
  • 3 years of experience with a range of quality improvement methods and tools (such as the IHI Model for Improvement, Lean Six Sigma and or other lean management frameworks), and systems analysis

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills And Abilities

  • Must possess strong communication, and interpersonal skills that will enable them to work as a member of a team, facilitate groups, and present information at various levels within the healthcare system.

  • Must have satisfactory employment record
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
  • May be required to travel throughout the service area requiring a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle.

Preferred

  • Post Graduate Degree in health science or related field is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Manitoba’s oncology care system.
  • Report writing, project design, program evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making and delivering training
  • Training/expertise in Quality and Performance Improvement Methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, PDSA)
  • Awareness of, or experience in developing clinical practice guidelines
  • Experience in gathering, interpreting, and collating healthcare literature
  • Ability to speak French
