Job summary

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a Quality Manager for the Final Assembly Line. The role leads the Quality Management System, ensures compliance with CAN 561, AS9100, Nadcap, and customer requirements, and drives cross-functional quality improvements on a multi-site basis.

The ideal candidate will have a engineering degree, 3+ years leading a quality team, and extensive experience in aerospace quality systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead the quality department and set objectives with performance reviews.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Quality- Manufacturing, the Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance systems and activities to ensure products or services meet internal and external requirements. This includes legal compliance, customer expectations, and company standards. The Quality Manager leads a team of quality professionals and works cross-functionally to continuously improve quality performance and efficiency. This is an on-site role located in Calgary, Alberta and is a multi-site role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and management within the department through a structural process of objective setting, performance appraisals and individual development plans as appropriate. Establish an accountable quality organization through embracing and demonstrating accountable leadership principles. Instill a culture of daily, weekly and monthly review of performance
  • Plan, manage and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) described in the Quality Manual and ensure our processes comply with Canadian Aviation Regulation 561, Industry Standard AS9100, Nadcap, and customer requirements applicable to the site. Ensure regulatory and industry approvals are valid and maintained.
  • Provide direction to the Quality Control Program in Operations, including maintaining and improving product inspection plans and FAI processes. Manage quality control inspection and lead process improvement to product inspection plans and FAI processes. Manage non-conforming material control and resolutions to non-conforming product per approved processes and through liaison across different departments as required.
  • Collaborate with the Supplier Quality Group to identify, trace and take action to improve supplier quality performance.
  • Monitor and measure the site’s quality performance with special attention to customer related metrics. Internal and external customers are of high interest to the Site Quality Manager, who advocates for exceptional customer service, and to consistently achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Support improvement initiatives to make processes better. Provide oversight of RCCA to improve internal quality. Develop and execute strategies to improve the quality of product delivered to the customer by translating opportunities into proactive actions.
  • Manage the control of documents and records and day to day control of document systems. Oversee the administration of Document Control functions within the business, including maintaining document control policies and procedures and controlling Quality Systems and relevant equipment.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance in relation to the internal audit program and address in timely manner any preventative and corrective action assigned.
  • Prepare annual budget for the Site Quality activities, and manage the system for measuring the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and lead initiatives for improvements.
  • Ensure business is compliant with Controlled Goods Program requirements, including assistance with export license applications and guidance/action in preparation of applicable documentation.
Education & Experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an aerospace related program or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in QMS metrics including measuring and monitoring of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience performing quality assessments including prior audit experience to AS9100 or ISO9001
  • Experience and Understanding of the Canadian Aviation Regulation 561, Industry Standard AS9100, and Nadcap
  • Minimum 3 years' experience leading a team; including managing performance, succession planning and team building
  • Minimum 5 years’ working in a Quality Team
Assets & Competencies
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and data analysis used in all phases of metrology is considered an asset
  • Accreditation as a Certified Quality Manager or Engineer is considered an asset
  • Experience with Enterprise or Material Resource Planning software (i.e., Visual Manufacturing or IFS) is preferred
  • Familiarity with quality data systems, SPC software, and digital QMS platforms
  • Experience conducting FMEA/PFMEA, control plan development, and integrating risk-based approaches
  • Drives cross-functional initiatives and quality KPIs aligned with organizational goals
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience with SharePoint is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage conflicts
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimum supervision and direction
