What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning in 2023, Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation, and site mobilization scope for the construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.


The Quality Manager – Conventional Island (CI) will report directly to the Project Quality Director and is responsible for implementing the Quality Program in the Conventional Island segment. The Quality Manager – CI will work with other Aecon sectors and alliance partners to set up construction systems and processes that will achieve outstanding nuclear safety metrics and cost-effective quality operational results in support of the DNNP.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Ensure Quality Program requirements applicable to the Conventional Island segment are effectively implemented.
  • Develop and implement project-specific procedures and work instructions to support construction activities.
  • Manage the Quality Team assigned to support the Conventional Island segment.
  • Interface with engineering, procurement, and construction groups on planning QC activities required by the design and applicable codes and standards including preparation of Inspection and Test Plans, Construction Work Packages, and NCR management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and enhance project quality-related documentation, including inspection checklists, test protocols, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Conduct management self-assessments to monitor the implementation of the quality program within the project.
  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement by identifying new practices that will contribute to overall project effectiveness.
  • Maintain liaison with alliance partners on planning and execution matters related to the Conventional Island segment.
  • Champion and promote a culture of nuclear safety and quality within the project.
  • Interpret, execute, and recommend modifications to strategies and policies to sustain safety and quality performance.
  • Support internal and external audits and customer oversight activities.
  • Assist the project construction team with the implementation of codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Preferably a graduate of a four-year engineering program from a recognized university.
  • At minimum, a graduate of a three-year technology program at the college level.
  • 10 years of experience in the construction/fabrication industry with at least 5 years in a quality management/leadership role.
  • CWB Weld Inspector – Level II or III (CWB W178.2) is an asset.
  • CGSB Level 2 – Liquid Penetrant & Magnetic Particle Technician is an asset.
  • Advance knowledge of construction codes and standards including:
    • ASME Section VIII Div. 1
    • ASME Section II, Parts A, B & C
    • ASME Section IX
    • ASME Section V
    • CSA N285.0, CSA N286-12 & CSA N299
    • ASNT SNT-TC-1A
    • CSA W47.1/ W59
    • ISO 9001:2015
    • CSA B51
  • Expertise in developing Quality Assurance Programs and processes.
  • Continuous improvement and process improvement methodologies.
  • Understanding of design and construction requirements.
  • Strong coordination and organization skills, with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with internal teams, alliance partners, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities.
