Overview
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Quality Inspection Supervisor is responsible for managing and leading quality inspection activities to ensure aerospace and nuclear components comply with regulatory standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP), customer specifications, and company quality policies. This role involves supervising inspection teams, developing quality control procedures, and collaborating with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams to maintain high standards of safety, product quality, and productivity. Strong knowledge of nuclear specifications, documentation requirements, and source inspection processes is essential, along with prior experience in nuclear projects and their quality expectations.
Responsibilities
- Quality Oversight: Develop, implement, and maintain quality inspection processes and procedures to ensure compliance with aerospace and nuclear standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, CSA N299) and regulatory requirements.
- Team Management: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of quality inspectors and technicians, ensuring effective performance and adherence to quality protocols. Set priorities and allocate inspection resources effectively to meet production and delivery schedules.
- Inspection Planning: Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspections of aerospace and nuclear components and assemblies. Ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, and regulatory requirements. Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of inspection tools and equipment.
- Non-Conformance Management: Identify and document non-conformances and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes to prevent recurrence if required.
- Audits and Compliance: Participate and support external audits (e.g., customer, regulatory, or third-party) to ensure compliance with industry standards and certifications.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to address quality issues, improve processes, and ensure design specifications are met.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze quality data, generate reports and KPIs such as First-off KPIs, and present findings to senior management to drive continuous improvement.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and complete records of inspections, certifications, and quality metrics, including nuclear-specific documentation required by regulatory bodies and customers.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in initiatives aimed at improving quality processes, reducing defects, and enhancing operational efficiency using tools like Lean or other methodologies.
- Source Inspection Coordination: Support and coordinate source inspections and ensure proper documentation and readiness in accordance with nuclear project requirements.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), regulations, and internal health and safety policies and procedures.
- Help create a healthy work environment by not condoning, participating in, or failing to report—as you become aware—any harassment, discrimination, gossiping, or unfair treatment of anyone.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, quality management, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Manager, Six Sigma Black Belt) are a plus.
Experience / Knowledge
- Minimum of five (5) years experience as an inspector in a quality control or inspection department. Minimum of two (2) years leadership experience.
- Experience in aerospace and nuclear projects is preferred; knowledge of nuclear standards and specifications is highly valued.
- Strong understanding of nuclear documentation practices and source inspection processes.
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- ERP exposure an asset.
Skills & Abilities
- High level of expertise in using inspection tools and techniques such as CMM, micrometers, calipers, and non-destructive testing.
- Excellent understanding of quality management systems (QMS) and software (e.g., ERP systems, quality databases).
- Proven leadership and team management abilities; demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and assignments with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams (oral and written communication skills).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T.
- Knowledge of aerospace and nuclear manufacturing processes and materials.
- Experience with NADCAP or special processes.
Salary Range: Up to $100k
