Locally, in Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence.

The Role :

The Quality Improvement Specialist works as a highly engaged and collaborative team member to implement quality improvement (QI) strategies across all areas of the Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF). The Quality Improvement Specialist provides technical assistance, directional guidance, and project and change management support to a variety of stakeholders and champions a culture of continuous quality improvement and service excellence.

This position will report to the Quality Improvement Manager.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Functions horizontally across the BSF, supporting QI needs in continuing care and our social impact areas
  • Designs systems and process changes that lead to operational improvement
  • Leads special projects to achieve measured results and desired outcomes in targeted areas.
  • Uses project management techniques to guide change, while identifying and proactively managing project risks.
  • Attends and chairs committee meetings to provide advice on and lead quality improvement matters and initiatives.
  • Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of key strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborates with areas within the BSF to develop new service models to support BSF strategies and objectives.
  • Supports the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to the development and revision of tools and resources by identifying best practices while following regulations and requirements
  • Works in tandem with education department to ensure processes are adopted consistently
  • Co-chairs the Quality Assurance Committee and provides oversight and support with the Quality Assurance Review process.
  • Participates in incident reviews and root cause analysis as required.
  • Monitors compliance with Accreditation Canada standards on an ongoing basis.

Who We're Looking For :

  • Bachelor's degree – preference for clinical studies

Master's level education preferred

  • 5+ years in Quality Improvement
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks
  • Research skills to identify best practices
  • Change management
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information
  • Leadership skills to lead individuals and initiatives actively and effectively
  • Interpersonal skills to build rapport and maintain strong working relationships across functional and reporting levels
  • Strategic thinking skills to take a big-picture view and combine it with granular details while anticipating issues
  • Measurement and analytical skills to ensure desired goals are achieved
  • Use of quality improvement tools and continuous process improvement techniques
  • Project management skills to accomplish tasks and actualize defined objectives
