Job description

Marshall Canada is seeking a Quality, Health, Safety, & Environmental Manager to join our team in Ottawa, ON. Reporting to the Director, Operations, this role will lead the Marshall Canada Holdings Inc. Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental Program, and establish and manage the team in support of the organization’s strategic direction.

This role will also be responsible to drive the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the various management systems covering ISO9001, ISO14001, & ISO45001, ensuring that the organization’s management system is fully compliant with applicable standards.

Your responsibilities in the role:

Overall:

  • Manage the Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental Team by assigning responsibilities for Quality Management tasks.
  • Promote a Quality, Health & Safety culture, including support to department managers and group leads in their taking ownership of processes and procedures that guide their department operations.
  • Develop and maintain a Safety Management System framework
  • Develop, manage and maintain QHSE related items at all levels (emergency evacuation to corporate initiatives).
  • Engender a culture for promotion of Marshall values and ethical business behavior in a tolerant workplace free from discrimination, violence, and harassment.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Vice President – North America or Operations Director.

Quality:

  • Lead the Development and maintenance of a Quality Management System that reflects the values of Marshall and ensures compliance to applicable industry standards and customer requirements/regulations while continuously seeking opportunities to improve the QMS.
  • Act as the ‘Management Representative’ IAW applicable standards.
  • Oversee, plan, and conduct the organization’s Annual Audit Program and host applicable 3rd Party Auditors where applicable.
  • Provide the structure and requirements for QMS documentation, oversee the management of QMS documents.
  • Facilitate an environment to achieve customer and regulatory certification, as required by the organization.
  • Work with the SMT to ensure certifications are achieved and maintained.
  • Chair the Quality Management Review Team Meetings.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the records of audit (including non-conformances) in the online Quality software system and support the progression of closure for Corrective Actions.
  • Lead the Conduct of investigations, as/when required.
  • Report progress on the audit program, non-conformances, trends and escalations to the Quality Management Review Team, and SMT, as/when required.
  • Assess and select certification bodies to provide services, as necessary to the QMS.
  • Provide and/or support quality training for Marshall Canada, as/where required.

Health, Safety, & Environment:

  • Lead the maintenance and ensure effectiveness of the HSE Management System to ensure the continuous improvement business model is achieved, including the development of supporting Standards and Procedures.
  • Lead the Implementation of Corporate HSE policy and procedures locally, as well as development of local policies and procedures (including HSE Manual) as applicable.
  • Report to top management on the performance of the HSE management system and any need for improvement.
  • Promote and create awareness for compliance of customer HSE requirements, regulatory and
    industry requirements, and internal company guidelines throughout the organization.
  • Lead the Management of HSE objectives, targets, aspects and programs across all business areas.
  • Lead annual review the HSE Management System through a standardized corporate internal audit process.
  • Oversee the schedule and manage all related audits and coordinate with all Departments as required. Analyze and interpret audit results and introduce and control resulting actions required.
  • Lead the establishment and maintenance of safety KPIs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Operations.

Apply if you have most of the following:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in Quality Assurance, with;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in leading audits.
  • Familiar with various Industry Standards including but not limited to:
    • ISO 9001 Standard
    • ISO 45001
    • ISO 14001
  • Certified Lead Auditor to ISO9001 current revision and be willing to upgrade training, as required.
  • Computer Literacy
    • Understanding of MS Office Suite is essential
    • Understanding of Q-Pulse or other QMS Software tools
  • Experience with DND systems is an asset.
  • Quality Managerial or Quality Managerial Support experience.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills: Fluent written and oral English is mandatory and competence in French is beneficial.

Must be eligible to meet the requirements of export control regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian government security requirements.
