Summary
As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Quality will effectively lead, direct, and manage a team of quality specialists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality assurance systems, supplier quality engineering, and product quality support activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Own and lead the business quality management systems and programs through development and implementation of KPIs, policies, procedures, and quality standards within the ISO 9000 environment.
- Ensure supplier evaluation and process audits are conducted, including evaluating, reviewing, and documenting supplier quality and delivery performance.
- Collaborate with the Supply Chain department in developing existing and potential new suppliers.
- Oversee product quality development and implementation of standards, methods, and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision, accuracy, and reliability of products.
- Interface regularly with cross-functional departments to report product failures and assist in formulating resolutions.
- Prepare and/or ensure various reports on product quality are produced as deemed appropriate by the senior management team.
- Implement and maintain efficient action plans for products on/off hold via the Stop Build / Stop ship process.
- Support Contract Administration in responding to product quality requirements during the contract award review process.
- Work closely with NPI Engineering during the new product introduction process in the development of the Manufacturing and Quality plan for internal factories and external supply partnerships.
- Support and promote quality initiatives within the business, working closely with the VP/GM of EOD and the Senior Management Team.
- Collaborate and partner with cross-functional teams to implement and maintain continuous improvement methodologies through a well-defined Operating Model.
- Manage Product and Production Certifications and compliance, including NIJ Standard 0117.01, Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on PPE (CE Marking).
- Partner with Supply Chain on regulatory compliance (e.g., REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals, PFAS).
- Collaborate with Business Process owners to help revise documents and manage releases.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Quality specialists to meet organizational objectives, by establishing clear performance goals, providing regular feedback, and driving professional growth.
- Manage and prepare the Quality department's annual budget.
Education & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in progressive Quality management leading roles in a technical manufacturing environment.
- Education: BS/BA in industrial, mechanical, engineering, or equivalent training and experience.
- Formal training and certification in quality systems such as ASQ, ISQM would be an asset.
- Previous experience/certifications in a lean manufacturing environment and with corporate operating models.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating problem-solving, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills.
- High technical aptitude and capability to lead, motivate, and develop employees.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to obtain a positive Controlled Goods Assessment.
