These specialty additives are used to enhance the performance of asphalt for paving and roofing applications.

Position Objective:

The Quality Control Technician is an essential role within the Quality department. The position supports daily and strategic quality control functions that allow efficient production and delivery of certified products to the customer. The incumbent will have a significant amount of independent work and strong communication with the research & innovation, operations, procurement, and sales & marketing teams.

This is an onsite position.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect raw material samples from company warehouses (within city limits) for QC testing.
  • Perform testing and experiments according to established procedures and interpret test results.
  • Compare results to established specifications and control limits and make decisions on sample performance and acceptance.
  • Run testing of raw materials and products using various analytical equipment and techniques including, but not limited to, Brookfield Viscometer, Mettler Drop Point, Penetrometer, Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectrometer (FTIR).
  • Document internal audits and other quality assurance activities.
  • Investigate customer complaints and non-conformance issues.
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement in the quality system.
  • Develop, recommend, and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare reports to communicate the outcomes of quality activities.
  • Calibrate, validate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare and/or maintain necessary inventories of laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Monitor quality testing protocols to ensure that all tests are performed according to established operating procedures.
  • Work with and assist research, operations, sales & marketing, and engineering teams.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum Science Technical Diploma, BSc, or equivalent experience in a related field (e.g. Chemical Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Quality Control, Chemistry, or Polymer Science).
  • A minimum of 1 year of related laboratory experience.
  • Experience in plastics and/or chemicals processing/production is a strong asset.
  • Adaptability to change and willingness to learn new procedures and techniques.
  • Able to clearly communicate ideas, reasoning, and conclusions to a varied audience and productively interact with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and time constraints while maintaining a high level of work quality.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Strong background in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds.
  • Safety conscience and professional.
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends as needed to support business operations.
