Qualifications

What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP, SMRX Project). Aecon will support the validation phase of design, procurement, early site preparation, and site mobilization for the construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting to the Power Block Execution Director for operational perspective and Project Quality Manager for technical matters, the Quality Control Power Block Supervisor will oversee all quality control inspection staff during the physical execution phase, encompassing both the Nuclear Island (NI) and Conventional Island (CI) scope.

The QC Power Block Supervisor, in conjunction with the Quality Manager, will collaborate with other Aecon sectors and Alliance partners to monitor construction systems and processes to achieve outstanding nuclear safety metrics and cost-effective quality results in support of the DNNP.

What are the Role Requirements?

  • Ensure Quality Control requirements across the Power Block are effectively managed and implemented.
  • Assist in developing and implementing project-specific quality control procedures and work instructions supporting all construction activities, including civil, mechanical, and electrical works up to handover to commissioning.
  • Supervise and support the Quality Control Team across the NI, CI, and Balance of Plant (BOP) segments of the Power Block.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams regarding QC planning, inspection and test plans, construction work packages, and NCR management.
  • Collaborate on developing and improving project quality documentation, such as inspection checklists, test protocols, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying new practices to enhance project effectiveness.
  • Ensure timely inspections aligned with the construction schedule.
  • Maintain liaison with Alliance Partners on quality control matters across the Power Block.
  • Foster a culture of Delivery Excellence, integrating nuclear safety and quality in the field teams.
  • Support internal audits and customer oversight activities during the execution phase.
  • Assist construction teams in understanding codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage collation, review, and approval of Lifetime Records (LTRs).
  • Perform other duties as outlined in Aecon’s Quality Assurance Manuals.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • College degree in a related field, with at least 7 years of experience, including 5 years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Experience in nuclear heavy construction or fabrication industry.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as ASME, CSA, ANSI, ISO, and others listed.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Understanding of design and construction requirements.
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills, with emphasis on accuracy and diligence.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and project databases.

Certifications that are assets include:

  • CWB Weld Inspector – Level II or III
  • CGSB Level 2 – Liquid Penetrant & Magnetic Particle Technician
  • AWS Weld Inspector certifications

Physical Demands:

  • Annual eye exam
  • Extensive reading
