The Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada location is seeking talent to fill the position of QC & Scheduling Supervisor, Thunder Bay Sawmill. This is a full-time permanent position.

Quality Control & Scheduling Supervisor, Thunder Bay Sawmill

Reporting directly to the Sawmill Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the plant’s mechanical and process control optimization systems are in place and maintained to produce a consistent, high-quality product that meets and exceeds our standards. You will maximize product value and resource utilization through effective use of technology.

Your responsibilities:
  • Comply with health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Optimize recovery and product value
  • Maintain continuous improvement systems with inventory management, including FIFO and monthly product reporting
  • Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate performance improvements for quality assurance and control related to log processing and lumber manufacturing
  • Supervise and ensure compliance with work specifications, regulatory, and quality standards
  • Support technology transfer, troubleshooting, and process optimization
  • Inspect and audit processes, equipment, materials, and product quality
  • Collaborate with the Sawmill QC Supervisor to enhance product value and recovery
  • Conduct studies to ensure mill reliability and capacity compliance
  • Coordinate with maintenance supervisors to ensure optimal performance of mechanical and electrical activities
  • Complete administrative tasks such as reports on production, maintenance, safety, and training
  • Work with CLA inspectors during audits and visits
  • Work with Dry Kiln Operators to maximize product value
Ideal profile:
  • Technical diploma or relevant industry experience
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Word, and Excel
  • Formal PLC training with strong electrical and mechanical skills
  • NLGA valid grading license
  • Understanding of sawmill and planer mill equipment and issues in the wood industry
  • Progression in leadership roles
  • Strong safety awareness
  • Resourcefulness and interest in industrial environments
  • Good judgment, analytical skills, and influential communication
  • Team-oriented, professional, attentive listener
  • Ability to develop good business relationships and adapt to best practices
  • Self-motivated, autonomous, and results-oriented
